Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Muhammad Ijazul Haq has asked Ulema and Mashaikh of different schools of thought to forge communal harmony and play their due role for maintaining peace and security during Muharram. Talking to a delegation of religious leaders belonging to different schools of thought here on Sunday, he asked them to co-operate in the efforts made by the government.
He said Islam emphasises on tolerance and teaches Muslims to follow the footprints of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). While condemning the terrorist activities, the minister urged Ulema to keep strict watch on enemies of the country who are involved in terrorism. He also appealed to the people to foil nefarious designs of those elements who are involved in communal violence and creating instability in the country. He said people should also watch every strange person coming in mosques and imambargahs.
The minister said that those who could not perform Haj would be accommodated next year on priority basis. He said a comprehensive policy is being evolved next month for Umra.
Ulema praised steps taken by the government in the elimination of terrorism and assured the minister to play their role for maintaining peace, integrity and national coherence.
